There is still considerable room for growth and development of the gardens, its research and education potential. We are currently updating The Management Plan which has six key program areas as follows; – infrastructure development, environmental education and information, safety and security, biodiversity research, human resource and garden development.

The long term management objective for the Arboretum is to re-establish and revitalize an environment-friendly public amenity with a beautiful, peaceful and safe place to visit, well-maintained infrastructure and a high standard living collection. The Arboretum has to have additional facilities to support, sustainably, a substantial number of visitors from both Kenya and other countries. The Arboretum needs adequate skilled staff in a variety of fields to meet a wide range of functions and opportunities. This ambitious plan is estimated to cost KShs 235 million and to be financed by Kenya Forest Service, the Friends of Nairobi Arboretum and other stakeholders. It is our desire that the Arboretum will be a source of justifiable pride for the City of Nairobi and the Government and People of Kenya.
